BRIDGEWATER, Va. – In an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) affair on Saturday afternoon at the BC Tennis Courts, the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team cruised to their seventh straight victory with an 8-1 win over visiting Guilford College.
Saturday's match also marked Senior Day for a trio of Bridgewater players.
The sophomore duo of Katie Gordon and Katy Bergey got things started in doubles play with an easy 8-1 victory, while the team of Brittany Wilson and Olivia Stone dropped a tough 8-5 decision at number two to even things up.
Seniors Ally McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer earned a hard-fought 8-6 win at number three to hand Bridgewater a 2-1 lead as singles play loomed.
Gordon got the Eagles off on the right foot in singles play as the sophomore earned an easy 6-0, 6-1 win in top flight singles action.
Bergey kept things going with a 6-1, 6-0 victory while Wilson cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number three to seal the match win for the team,
At number four, Schweitzer claimed a 6-4 win in the first set before posting the 6-0 shutout in set two to record the victory.
Stone was a 6-4, 6-0 victor at number five before McConaughy claimed a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at number six to close out the match.
Bridgewater returns to action on Sunday at Virginia Wesleyan in the final road match of the 2012 regular season. Action against the Marlins is set for a 1 p.m. start.
