Eagles Turn Back Methodist, 16-6

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College improved to 5-8 on the season with a 16-6 victory Saturday afternoon over Methodist University.

Methodist got on the board first when Brittany Brockway scored for the 1-0 lead.  Bridgewater responded less than a minute later when Jenny Logan scored.  Megan Bach then found the back of the net two minutes later to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead - a lead they wouldn't relinquish.  Caitlin Costello then scored three consecutive goals and Taylor Chamberlain scored to give BC a 6-1 lead before Methodist's Jasmine Stephens scored.

Bridgewater continued to push the lead when Leslie Marshall scored.  Leslie Crawford and Chamberlain each found the back of the net just 30 seconds apart.  Costello, Bach, Aili Knapp, and Crawford finished off the half with goals to give Bridgewater a 13-3 lead.

Costello picked up where she left off in the first half, scoring early in the second half.  Methodist's Stephens scored again before Crawford took a pass from Chamberlain to give BC a 15-5 lead. Marshall then scored at the 14:45 mark and BC controlled play on their half of the field for most of the second period.

Stephens scored one more time for Methodist as time ran out for the final 16-6 score.

Costello had a big day for the Eagles scoring five goals, while Crawford added three goals and one assist.  Bach (two assists), Marshall (one assist), and Chamberlain (three assists) each scored two goals.  Knapp added a goal for the final scoring total.  For Methodist, Stephens had five goals, while Brockway had one.

The game marked the first time the Eagles sponsored the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.  The FOJ is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and their families.  The lacrosse team wore t-shirts to show their support and the Eagles field hockey team joined in by selling t-shirts and accepting donations.

The Eagles resume conference play on Wednesday when they will host Sweet Briar College at 5:00 p.m.
