Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College Eagles lacrosse team held a 5-2 half-time lead but could not hold on as the visiting Virginia Wesleyan Marlins came away with the 12-11 win on Senior Day.
Bridgewater got on the scoreboard first when Megan Bach found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Leslie Crawford scored on an assist from Taylor Chamberlain and the Eagles found themselves leading 2-0. BC wasn't finished. Jenny Logan then took a ground ball and took it the length of the field to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead. Virginia Wesleyan got on the scoreboard when Natalie Belva scored. BC's Aili Knapp responded with the Marlins goal, giving BC a 4-1 lead. VWC's Nikki Salyers then found the back of the net cutting the lead to two, 4-2. Cailtlin Costello then scored off an assist from Knapp to give the Eagles the 5-2 half-time lead.
The Marlins wasted no time in the second half scoring twent seconds in to play. Crawford responded for BC pushing the lead back to three, 6-3. The Marlins then scored three consecutive goals for a 6-6 tie. VWC went ahead 7-6 when Salyers scored her second goal on the afternoon. The teams then traded goals with neither one able to control the lead.
Knapp scored the final goal for the Eagles to tie the score at 11-11. Tara Harding found the back of the next with three minutes and some change left to give the Marlins the 12-11 win.
The Eagles will wrap up their season on Wednesday when they travel to Roanoke.
