Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Bridgewater College baseball team fell to 0-2 on its Florida trip with a 6-4 loss Tuesday to Bethany Lutheran.
Bethany Lutheran touched Bridgewater starter Tyler Milstead for two runs in the top of the second, but the Eagles answered with two in the bottom of the inning.
Jay Thompson singled, stole second and scored on a single by Alex Nuttycombe to the put the Eagles on the board. Nuttycombe raced home on a double by Alex Hogge to tie the score at 2-2.
Bethany Lutheran scratched out single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings to take a 6-2 lead and then held off the Eagles in the final two innings.
Bridgewater scored in the eighth when Devon Snow singled and moved to third on a single by Kevin Kirk. Snow scored on a sacrifice fly by Brett Howell, trimming the deficit to 6-3.
The Eagles threatened in the ninth when they loaded the sacks with one out on a double by Jake Wade and walks to Nuttycombe and Bryan Sanderson. The Eagles managed just one run on a sacrifice fly by Snow as the Vkings escaped with the 6-4 victory.
Kirk led the Eagles with a 3-for-5 day at the plate while Snow and Wade each finished 2-for-4.
The Eagles are now 7-7 overall while Bethany Lutheran improves to 4-0.
