Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater snapped a scoreless tie with four runs in the fourth and held on to defeat No. 22 Mary Washington, 5-3, Monday afternoon.
Jake Wade led off the fourth with a single and Andrew Hacker was hit by a pitch. Mary Washington then misplayed Alex Hogge's sacrifice bunt to load the bases with no outs. Alex Nuttycombe plated the first run with a sacrifice fly and Bryan Sanderson followed with a two-run double for a 3-0 Bridgewater lead. Sanderson scored on a single by Kevin Kirk to make the score 4-0.
Bridgewater starter Robert Gallet cruised through the first four innings, but was unable to escape the fifth.
A walk and a single by Santino Rosanova started the fifth inning rally for Mary Washington. Both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt and Shane Sixsmith followed with a sacrifice play to put the visitors on the board. Two walks and a hit batsman ended the day for Gallet with the Eagles lead now cut to 4-2. John Bayse then came on in relief for the Eagles and retired Jackson Clement on a fly ball to end the inning.
The Eagles answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Wade and a double by Hacker to make the score 5-2.
Three more BC relievers combined to allow just one run the rest of the way, that coming on a solo homer by Ben Sisk in the eighth.
Wade retired Mary Washington in order in the ninth to record the save and finish off the 4-3 victory.
The Eagles finished with just seven hits - two each by Kirk and Wade. Five Bridgewater pitchers combined to limit Mary Washington to just four hits. Bayse got the win with 1.1 hitless innings.
Bridgewater is now 15-11 overall while Mary Washington drops to 16-8.
