Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - Lynchburg College turned back a Bridgewater College rally early in the second half Saturday afternoon to defeat the Eagles, 74-60, in ODAC basketball action.
The Hornets led by eight, 37-29 at the break and the lead hovered around the double-digit mark for the first four minutes of the second half.
Two free throws by Nate Campbell gave the Hornets an 11-point lead, 48-37, before a 9-0 Bridgewater run cut the Lynchburg lead to two.
A layup by Bridgewater's Cody Griffith sliced the margin to nine at the 15:33 mark and then a long 3-pointer by Griffith trimmed the deficit to six, 48-42, with 13:52 left to play in the contest.
After a missed layup by Lynchburg's Tucker Lucas, Griffith knocked down a pair of foul shots, pulling the Eagles to within four points. After another missed shot by the Hornets, BC's Justin Brake scored following an offensive rebound to make it a two-point game, 48-46, with 12:08 left to play.
Lynchburg big man Austin Chillemi then halted the BC rally as he converted a three-point play to start a 16-4 run by the Hornets.
Nate Campbell followed with a jumper to push the lead to seven, but Malcolm Dickson answered with a layup for the Eagles, cutting the Hornets lead to 53-48 with 10:53 left.
A 3-pointer by Shawn Minor and a jumper by Michael Glover pushed the Hornets advantage back to double figures and two free throws by Andrew Simmons gave Lynchburg a 12-point lead.
Kyle Hammond hit two free throws for the Eagles, but Campbell hit a jumper and Tucker drained a 3-pointer to put the Hornets up by 15 points, 65-50, with 7:56 left.
Griffith led the Eagles, now 6-15 overall and 2-10 in the ODAC, with 13 points while Rick Maloney added 11 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Lynchburg's big men led the way with Campbell posting a double-double of 18 points and 10 boards. Chillemi added 15 points for the Hornets, now 10-12 overall and 5-8 in ODAC play.
