NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport took advantage of six Bridgewater College errors Sunday afternoon to pull away for a 14-4 non-conference baseball victory.

Bridgewater got on the board in the top of the second when Alex Nuttycombe doubled home a run for a 1-0 Eagles lead. CNU rresponded and oughed up Bridgewater starter Joseph Lucas with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Lucas settled in and held the Captains scoreless until CNU scored an unearned run in the fifth to lead 5-1.

Jay Thompson belted a solo homer in the sixth to pull the Eagles to within 5-2, but once again, CNU answered, this time with a pair of unearned runs to take a 7-2 lead.

The Captains broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the seventh to open up a 13-2 lead. Two of the runs in the seventh were unearned.

Bridgewater scored its final runs in the eighth win Dustin Arrowood doubled and Thompson followed with his second homer of the game.

Bridgewater is now 3-2 overall while the Captains improve to 5-1.
