Eagles Open Season at Washington and Lee; Split with the Generals and Lynchburg

LEXINGTON, Va. – On the opening day of the 2011 women's tennis season, the Bridgewater Eagles hung around with tenth-ranked Washington and Lee in a 9-0 loss at W&L's Duchossois Tennis Center.

Against Washington and Lee, the Eagles stayed close in the top two singles showdowns as freshman Katie Gordon fell by a 6-1, 6-3 margin at number one, before fellow freshman Katy Bergey dropped a tight 7-5, 6-0 decision at number two.

At number three, Ally McConaughy fell by a 6-0, 6-2 tally, before senior Morgan McGhee was dropped by identical 6-1 scores at number four.

Freshman Brittany Wilson fell by a 6-0, 6-3 margin, before sophomore Amanda Gorby fell by a 6-1, 6-1 tally to round out things at number six.

In doubles action, the tandem of Bergey and Gordon kept things tight at number one, falling by an 8-5 tally.

The Eagles also held things close at number three doubles, nearing victory in an 8-5 defeat.

Bridgewater was also in action against Lynchburg and took down the Hornets by a 9-0 score. Complete results will be available at a later time.
