Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - Bridgewater College's young men's basketball team took to the road Saturday and came away with a huge 71-54 conference victory over the Guilford Quakers.
Bridgewater senior Cody Griffith hit a pair of 3-pointers to put the Eagles on top 6-2 and the Eagles never trailed.
A layup by David Larson put the Eagles on top by 10 points 30-20, but Guilford rallied with a 6-2 spurt to trail by six, 32-26, at the half.
Bridgewater hit four of its first five shots to start the second half as the Eagles quickly pushed the margin to 12 points, 41-29.
The Quakers continued to fight back and a jumper by Gabriel Lowder pulled the hosts to within three, 41-38, with 15:39 left.
That would be as close as the Quakers would get as the Eagles maintained the upper hand.
A 10-0 run by the Eagles pushed the margin to 14 points. Griffith started the run with a 15-footer and Aaron Adams added a layup. Daniel McClain hit back-to-back jumpers and Romie Powell capped the spurt with a layup, making the score 56-42.
Guilford made one final push and cut the lead to seven, 56-49, with 5:24 left but Benaiah Wise knocked down a big 3-pointer to push the lead back to 10 and the Eagles pulled away down the stretch for the final 71-54 victory.
Griffith poured in a game high 25 points to lead the Eagles offfense. BC's senior guard hit 6-of-9 3-pointers.
"Cody has been working hard, getting up a lot of shots in practice, and it was good to see him come out and knock down some shots today," Bridgewater head coach Don Burgess said. "You know, this was just a great team effort on the road. Our post guys gave us a good collective effort and our freshmen really played well. Ronnie (Thomas) had nine assists. To go on the road and get a conference win is a big step for our guys."
Adams added 10 points and Ronnie Thomas turned in a stellar floor game with four points, six rebounds and nine assists.
The Eagles finished the contest with 20 assists and turned the ball over just 11 times. Bridgewater was also on fire from beyond the arc, hitting 10-0f-23 from 3-point range.
The Eagles are now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
