Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - Guilford College pulled away from a cold-shooting Bridgewater team in the second half to defeat the Eagles, 68-43, Wednesday night in ODAC basketball action.
The Eagles trailed by just nine points, 32-23, at the half but BC shot just 15 percent in the second half, allowing the Quakers to pull away.
Bridgewater trailed by just two points, 17-15, with 7:52 left in the first half, but the Quakers scored five straight points to push the margin to seven.
The Eagles trailed by six points and had possession with an opportunity to hold the basketball for the last shot of the half. Bridgewater turned the ball over and Guilford guard Josh Pittman drained a long 3-pointer at the buzzer, his fifth 3-pointer of the half, to give the Quakers a 32-23 lead at the half.
The Eagles traded points with the Quakers for the first five minutes of the second half and trailed by eight when Guilford hit Bridgewater with a 19-3 run to blow the game open.
In the final 17:37 of the ballgame, the Eagles connected on just one shot from the floor, a layup by David Larson with 17 seconds left in the game.
Pittman hit 7-of-11 3-point shots and led Guilford (10-5, 4-2) with 28 points. Rick Maloney led Bridgewater (5-9, 1-4) with 14 points and nine rebounds. Rashad Moore added 10 points.
Bridgewater will be back in action Saturday afternoon when the Eagles host Hampden-Sydney.
