Eagles Stop W&L To Run Winning Streak To Eight

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Bridgewater College Eagles jumped out to an 11-0 lead over Washington and Lee after two innings Tuesday and defeated the Generals 16-8 in ODAC action. The win was the eighth straight for the Eagles.

The Eagles jumped all over W&L starter Chuck Davidson in the first as he failed to retire any of the six batters he faced.

Drew Easter led off with a single and Mitchell Edwards doubled to get the inning started. Andy Chrismer walked to load the bases and Brett Howell followed with a two-run single to put the Eagles on the board. Andrew Hacker then singled home a run and Drew Elkins singled to reload the bases, ending the day for Davidson.

Relief pitcher Eric Wisotsky walked Jonathan Mason to force in a run for a 4-0 lead Eagles lead before retiring Alex Nuttycombe on a strikeout for the first out of the game. Devon Snow then line a two-run, giving the Eagles a 6-0 lead. Easter delivered his second hit of the inning, this one a two-run double, making the score 8-0. Wisotsky retired Edwards and Chrismer to end the marathon top of the first.

The Eagles added three more runs in the second. Howell reached on an error and scored on Mason's two-out triple. Mason scored on a double by Nuttycombe and Nuttycombe came around to score on W&L's second error of the inning as the lead ballooned to 11-0.

The Generals scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to close to 11-3 but Chrismer belted a towering two-run homer in the fifth to increase the margin to 13-3.

W&L continued to fight back and plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 13-7. Jum Plantholt's line-drive homer to left hightlighted the four-run uprising.

The teams traded runs in the seventh before the Eagles closed out the scoring with a two-run eighth.

Easter and Howell each finished 4-for-6 at the plate to lead BC's 18-hit attack. Mason finished with three hits and Hacker added two.
