FERRUM, Va. - Bridgewater College scored four
runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday to defeat the
Ferrum College Panthers, 11-7, in non-conference baseball action.
The Eagles trailed 6-0 after two innings, but began chipping
away at the deficit with three runs in the fourth. Brett Howell
homered to lead off the inning and the Eagles then loaded the bases
on an error and singles by Drew Elkins and Alex Nuttycombe. Devon
Snow then delivered a two-run single, pulling the Eagles to within
6-3.
Ferrum got one of the runs back in the bottom of the fourth to
lead 7-3, but the Eagles scored two in the sixth and two in the
seventh to catch the Panthers.
In the sixth, Snow walked with one out and with two gone
Mitchell Edwards belted a two-run homer, making the score 7-5. In
the seventh the Eagles loaded the bases with one out before
Nuttycombe ripped a two-run single up the middle to tie the score.
Snow then bunted for a hit to reload the sacks but Drew Easter and
Edwards both flied out to end the inning with score tied at 7-7.
Andy Chrismer singled to lead off the eighth and Howell followed
with a double to put runners at second and third. Andrew Hacker
then blasted a three-run homer to give the Eagles their first lead
of the game, 10-7. The Eagles were not quite finished as Jonathan
Mason walked and scored on a double by Nuttycombe for an 11-7
Bridgewater lead.

John Bayse, Hacker and Elkins - combined to hold the Panthers
scoreless over the final four innings. Bayse picked up the victory
as he pitched a hitless bottom of the seventh.
Nuttycombe and Snow each finished with three hits to lead the
Eagles' 16-hit attack. Nuttycombe was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and
Snow went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs batted in. Hacker, Howell,
Easter and Elkins each added two hits with Hacker scoring three
runs and driving in three more.
The Eagles are now riding a seven-game winning streak as they
improved to 16-12 overall.
