LYNCHBURG, Va.- Bridgewater College will play
for the ODAC Championship after defeating Lynchburg College, 4-3,
early Sunday afternoon at the conference tournament at City
Stadium.
Lynchburg jumped on top with a run in the top of the first
against BC starter Joseph
Lucas. Jeff Waltes led off with a double and later scored on a
throwing error by third baseman Brett Howell to put the Hornets on
the board.
Bridgewater got the run back in the bottom of the inning. Drew Easter was hit by a
pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Easter scored on a
single by Howell to tie the score.
Bridgewater took the lead in the third when Mitchell Edwards tripled to
lead off the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Easter, making
the score 2-1.
Lynchburg tied the score on a solo homer by Walters in the fifth
and grabbed the lead when Walters blasted another solo shot in the
seventh. putting the Hornets on top 3-2.
The Eagles responded and regained the lead in the bottom of the
seventh. Howell led off with a single and Stokely was hit by a
pitch. Both runners noved up on a sacrifice bunt by Andy Chrismer
and both scored on a single by Drew Elkins to make the score
4-3.
Elkins picked up the win on the mound with 2.2 scoreless innings
in releif. Lucas gave the Eagles a quality start, working 6.1
innings. Two of the three runs allowed by Lucas were earned.
