DANVILLE, Va. - After taking an even match into
doubles play, the Bridgewater Eagles men's tennis team could only
come up with one doubles victory as the team fell to the Averett
Cougars in an out-of-conference clash by a 5-4 score.
Bridgewater dropped its first three singles matches to open the
day before storming back at number four, five and six to even
things up at three apiece heading into doubles action.
At number four singles, Teddy Callow split the first two sets
before winning the third set in a 26-game thriller to give the
Eagles their first win of the day.
Brent Floyd continued Bridgewater's late resurgence with a 6-0,
6-1 win at number five before Martin Donaire won by the same 6-0,
6-1 score to make things even after singles play.
Averett took the first two doubles matches to seal the victory
before the Eagles were winners at number three doubles by an 8-1
score but it wasn't enough as Bridgewater fell by a 5-4 tally.
Bridgewater is back in action tomorrow, March 26, when the team
returns to ODAC action with a clash against Hampden-Sydney. Action
from Hampden-Sydney is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start time.
