Women's Tennis Defeats Randolph-Macon 8-1

ASHLAND, Va. - Behind a dominating effort in singles play and a clean sweep in doubles action, the Bridgewater Eagles (3-4, 1-1 ODAC) women's tennis team picked up a solid 8-1 victory on the road at Randolph-Macon.

Senior Megan Mathias won her third match of her last four, taking down Martha Vlahakis by a 6-4, 6-2 score in top flight singles action.

At number two and three, Olivia Stone and Morgan McGhee each were victorious, while Amanda Gorby and Emily Schweitzer were winners at numbers five and six.

Randolph-Macon (1-5, 1-5 ODAC) got its lone win of the day at number four singles as Sarah Rainey topped BC's Ally McConaughy by a 6-0, 6-2 score.

The tandem of Ally McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer remained unbeaten in doubles play in 2010 with an impressive 8-2 victory in their first appearance at number two doubles as the Eagles swept the doubles points.

Bridgewater is back in action, tomorrow, Wednesday March 17 when the squad hosts Washington and Lee. Action with the Generals is slated for a 4:00 p.m. start.
