Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Sophomore Jenny Logan's
career-high 23 points paced the Bridgewater Eagles women's
basketball team to a 75-61 victory on the road at Virginia Wesleyan
(12-8, 9-6 ODAC).
The win was Bridgewater's (12-7, 9-6 ODAC) first victory at
Virginia Wesleyan since 2005.
Bridgewater led at the break by a 29-26 tally, behind 14 points
from Logan.
At the onset of the second half, BC used a 12-6 run to build up a
nine point advantage with under 16 minutes to play.
The Eagles built their lead to a game-high 10 points with 10:44
left before the Marlins went on an 11-2 run over the next four
minutes of the game to cut BC's lead down to a 48-47 tally.
Both teams traded buckets until Virginia Wesleyan used a mini-run
to edge ahead of the Eagles by 57-53 score with 44 ticks to
play.
Down the stretch, poor foul shooting by the Marlins allowed the
Eagles to creep back into the game until a pair of Logan free
throws knotted the game up at 57 with 15 seconds left.
Virginia Wesleyan's Jocelyn Spencer missed a three-pointer on the
final possession of regulation, pushing the game to an extra
session.
After trading free throws during the first minute of overtime,
Logan knocked in BC's first trey of the game to give Bridgewater a
62-59 lead with 3:52 to play.
Following a Maggie Davis free throw, the Eagles went on a 6-0 run,
capped off by a Burkholder free throw following a technical foul on
the Marlins bench to build a 68-60 lead with 2:34 remaining.
BC built its lead to 10 points with 2:15 to go and never looked
back as the Eagles earned a hard-fought 75-61 victory.
The Eagles outpaced Virginia Wesleyan by a 18-to-4 tally in the
extra stanza.
Logan's game-and-career-high 21 led the Eagles, while Burkholder
chipped in an additional 17. Junior Emileigh Lambert matched her
career-high with 14 points, while pulling in a team-high 10 boards
to earn her second career double-double.
Virginia Wesleyan was led by Tonia Jones' 17 point outing. Maggie
Davis notched a double-double with 13 points and a dozen
boards.
BC was out-rebounded by a 41-to-37 tally.
Bridgewater is back in action on Thursday when the squad heads
down I-81 to Staunton, Va. To do battle with the Mary Baldwin
Fighting Squirrels with a tip-time slated for 7:00 p.m.
