Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. – In a rematch of a game from three weeks ago, the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team had a number of opportunities to net the equalizer in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the cage in a season-ending 2-1 loss at Eastern Mennonite in the ODAC Quarterfinals.
The Royals got on the board when Linda Cimini put a reverse chip in the cage to put the Royals ahead 1-0.
Eastern Mennonite added to its lead two minutes later when Hailee Rittle fired a penalty stroke past the keeper and into the cage to give the Royals a 2-0 lead, which is where the game would stay after one half of play.
Bridgewater got on the board 14 minutes into the second stanza when, following a defensive save and misplay on the ball from the Royals defense, the Eagles capitalized on a penalty stroke from the stick of Megan Bach (Manchester, Md./North Carroll). Bach beat the keeper to the blocker side to cut the EMU lead to 2-1.
The Eagles had numerous opportunities over the final 20 minutes of play and dominated the latter portion of the half, but couldn't tally the equalizer as the squad ended its season with a 2-1 loss to the Royals.
Both teams tallied 10 shots in the game, while Bridgewater had nine penalty corners to just four for Eastern Mennonite.
In the cage, junior Taylor Waddell (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) picked up the loss, posting fives saves along the way.
The game marked the final game for seniors Kristen Combs, Leah Cossentino, Kirsten Ganslow, Kristina Glick, Kalah Hess and Brianna Jacques.
Bridgewater ends the season with a 9-9 mark, matching its record from a season ago.
