Box Score Randolph-Macon rallied for five runs in the bottom of the ninth
inning Thursday to defeat Bridgewater, 6-5, in the first round of
the ODAC baseball tournament at City Stadium in Lynchburg.
The Eagles scored in the first on Andy Chrismer's RBI-double and
the score remained 1-0 until the sixth when the Eagles scored four
runs.
Mike Lenox led off the sixth with a double and Mitchell Edwards was
hit by a pitch. Brett Howell walked to load the bases and Drew
Easter followed with a two-run single, giving the Eagles a 3-0
lead. Tyler Hodges capped the uprising with a two-run single and
the Eagles led 5-0.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board with a run in the eighth and
then rallied in the ninth as Bridgewater starter Drew Elkins
tired.
Elkins allowed just two hits over the first eight innings, but the
Yellow Jackets loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth and the
Eagles went to the bullpen for Jake Wade. Wade gave up a sacrifice
fly to Michael Wallace before a walk to J.C. Conway loaded the
bases again with BC holding a 5-2 lead.
Chris Gramm then entered the game and gave up a two-run single to
Jeff Beck, making the score 5-4. Randolph-Macon tied the score on a
bases-loaded walk and the winning run scored when relief pitcher
Travis Bullock delivered a wild pitch.
The Eagles will be back in action Friday at 3 p.m. against
Washington and Lee.
