Box Score 2 Bridgewater opened baseball conference play Saturday at Guilford
and the Eagles and Quakers split the doubleheader. Guilford won the
opener, 8-6, and the Eagles took the second game, 15-11.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opener when Brad
Buracker singled and Drew Easter followed with a homer.
The Quakers tied the score with two runs in the bottom of the
inning with a two-run shot by Alex Starbuck.
Guilford took the lead with three runs in the second, but BC
answered with three in the top of the third to tie the score. Mike
Lenox had a run-scoring single and Aaron Read added a sacrifice fly
as the Eagles pulled even, 5-5.
The Quakers regained the lead in fourth with two runs and another
run in the fifth gave Guilford an 8-5 lead.
The Eagles had a chance in the ninth. Brett Howell homered with one
out to make the score 8-6 and a single by Read, a walk to Andy
Chrismer and asingle by Tyler Hodges loaded the bases with just one
out. Guilford held on as Read was retired at the plate on a ground
out and Buracker grounded out to short to end the game.
Bridgewater jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second game with two
runs in the second and four in the third. Kevin Kirk's solo
homer put the Eagles on the board with one out in the second. Jake
Wade doubled and scored on Read's single for a 2-0 lead. In
the third, Mitchell Edwards drove in two runs with a single and
Lenox belted a two-run homer, giving BC a 6-0 lead.
After Guilford cut the lead to 6-2, the Eagles scored four more in
the fifth. Wade and Buracker singled home runs in the fifth and
Read singled in a pair of runs, giving BC a 10-2 lead.
Guilford fought back with five runs in the bottom of the inning,
but BC responded with three runs in the top of the sixth to lead
13-7. Lenox led off the inning with a homer and Drew Elkins added a
two-run homer to power the Eagles to a six-run lead.
BC scored two more in seventh on RBI-singles by Lenox and Kirk,
making the score 15-8.
The hot-hitting Lenox was 4-for-6 in the second game with four
RBIs. Kirk and Elkins each finished with three hits and two runs
batted in.
The Eagles are now 5-6, 1-1 in the ODAC.
