Eagles salvage split with 8-2 victory

Lefty Casey Hartman pitched seven strong innings Tuesday night to lead the Bridgewater College Eagles to an 8-2 victory over Hampden-Sydney at Rebel Park in New Market.

The victory salvaged a split for the Eagles in the ODAC doubleheader. In the first game, the Tigers took a 5-1 victory at Jopson Field.

Hartman allowed just six hits and one earned run in his seven innings. He struck out 10 and walked four. Hartman handed a 6-2 lead to Blake Stokely and the BC releiver pitched two scoreless innings to nail down the victory.

The Eagles scored two runs in the third on Kevin Kirk's RBI double to erase a 1-0 Hampden-Sydney lead.

BC padded the margin in the fifth with two more runs on a single by Brett Howell that gave the Eagles a 4-1 lead.

The Tigers made in 4-2 with a run in the top of the sixth, but the Eagles got that run back in the bottom of the inning when Drew Elkins singled to drive in a run.

Drew Easter belted a solo homer in the seventh and Tyler Hodges singled home two runs in the eighth to complete the Bridgewater scoring.

The Eagles are now 7-10 overall and 2-2 in the ODAC.
