Burkholder scores 29 to lead Eagles past E&H

The Bridgewater College women's basketball team defeated visiting Emory & Henry College 69-55 Saturday afternoon in Nininger Hall in women's ODAC basketball action.

The Eagles were led on both ends of the floor by sophomore Jordan Burkholder who finished with a career-high 29 points on the offensive end and six steals on the defensive end of play. Senior Jennifer Saunders added 12 points for the Eagles and teammates Rebecca Henderson and Emileigh Lambert each tallied eight rebounds.

BC jumped to an early 9-0 lead en route to a 36-29 half-time advantage. Burkholder tallied 18 of her 29 points in the first half to spark the Eagles to the early lead.

The Eagles extended the lead to double digits midway through the second half and protected the basketball down the stretch to close out the victory.

BC's defense forced the Wasps into 28 turnovers while collecting 17 steals for the game. BC also turned in an excellent shooting performance, going 29-62 from the field for 46.8%.

The Wasps were led by Alex Lyons with 20 points. Teammates Sarah Petty and Brittany Rogers tallied 13 and 12 points respectively.

With the win the Eagles are now 11-9 overall on the season and 9-6 in conference play. The Wasps dropped to 7-13 overall and 5-10 in conference play after the loss.

Bridgewater returns to action on Tuesday when they host Virginia Wesleyan College.
