Box Score Bridgewater College will get the chance to defend its ODAC
women's basketball championship Sunday at the Salem Civic
Center.
The Eagles (17-10) advanced to the title game with a 69-58 victory
Saturday over No. 1 seed Roanoke College. BC will meet
Randolph-Macon for the championship. R-MC pulled away in the second
half to defeat Virginia Wesleyan, 75-55.
Senior forward Jennifer Saunders scored a career high 22 points and
fellow senior Rebecca Henderson added a double-double with 10
points and 10 rebounds to lead the Eagles past the Maroons.
Emiliegh Lambert pitched in with 11 points for BC.
Roanoke scored the first 10 points of the game, but by halftime the
Eagles trailed by just two, 30-28.
Lambert's three-point play gave the Eagles a 33-32 lead and they
never trailed the rest of the way.
The game was tied four times after Lambert's three-point play, the
last coming at 48-48.
A layup by Lambert, a 3-pointer by Saunders and an layup by
Henderson put the Eagles on top by seven, 55-48, with 5:05 left to
play.
A stickback by Saunders pushed the margin to double digits with
2:11 left and the Maroons would get no closer than seven points
down the stretch.
Jordan Gholson and Erin Jenkins paced the Maroons with 17 points
each, but Gholson scored just two in the second half. Roanoke's
All-ODAC first team pick Caitlyn Long was held to just four points.
