Shenandoah righthander Brian Goddard shut out Bridgewater
College for the first five innings Thursday to help lead the
Hornets to an 8-4 non-conference victory.
Goddard allowed just two hits, both in the fifth inning, and picked
up the victory.
The Hornets broke up a scoreless tie with three runs in the fourth
off of BC starter Casey Hartman.
Scott Lambert walked to open the fourth inning and Jesse Henry
followed with a single. The Eagles then misplayed Greg Van
Sickler's bunt to load the sacks. Lambert scored on a double-play
grounder and Henry scored on a single by Corey Nelson, making the
score 2-0. Josh Simons doubled home Nelson for a 3-0 Shenandoah
lead.
The Hornets broke the game open with four more runs in the sixth.
Scott Van Dusseldorp, Simons and Sean Plouffe had RBI hits for the
Hornets in the inning.
The Eagles broke up the shutout in the eighth when Andy Chrismer
belted a two-run homer to right-center.
The Eagles are now 2-4 on the season while Shenandoah improves to
10-1.
