SALEM, Va. - Bridgewater (2-2, 0-1 ODAC) led the Roanoke Maroons with just under seven minutes to play, but a late 9-2 run by the preseason ODAC favorite's sunk the Eagles 59-51 in the 2009-10 conference opener at the Bast Center in Salem.

Bridgewater slowed down a vaunted Roanoke (4-0, 1-0 ODAC) attack in the first half as the teams traded leads multiple times in the game's opening 20 minutes before the Eagles took a slim 24-22 lead into the locker room.

Out of the intermission, Roanoke struck first with a three ball to open the second half to give the Maroons their first lead of the final stanza.

Roanoke then extended its lead to four points with under 16 to play, before a 9-2 Bridgewater run gave the Eagles a solid 36-33 lead with 11:51 left.

BC would maintain its slim lead until a Rebecca Bays layup gave the Maroons the lead back with 8:42 remaining.

Bridgewater wouldn't be behind for long as a Bianca Booker jumper put the Eagles back up at a 42-41 tally just 30 seconds later.

The two teams would trade leads five more times across the game's final eight minutes, but it would eventually be Roanoke, with its late run, owning the day, as the Maroons were victorious by a 59-51 margin.

Junior Jordan Burkholder netted a game-high 19 points for the Eagles to go along with 10 rebounds, earning the Turner Ashby graduate her first double-double of the year. Burkholder's 10 rebounds, led all players on the glass, while the junior also recorded a team-high three assists.

Guard Jenny Logan and freshman Katelynn Hottinger each netted nine points for the Eagles, with Hottinger's nine points being a career-high.

Roanoke was led by Jordan Gholson and Caitlyn Long with 13 points a piece. Gholson's nine rebounds just missed earning the center a double-double.

BC outshot Roanoke by a 41-to-40% tally. The Eagles also outrebounded the Maroons by a 37-35 margin, but couldnt overcome turnover woes as the Eagles were forced into a season-high 29 miscues.

There were 50 combined miscues between the two teams, with Roanoke owning a 32-12 advantage in points off turnovers.

Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday when the Eagles take on Randolph-Macon in an afternoon twinbill in Nininger Hall. The women are slated to tip-off at 1:00 p.m. With the men's game to follow. Fans coming to Nininger Hall can get into Saturday's doubleheader for free by bringing a toy to the contest in support of the team's Christmas Toy Drive.
