Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - Jacey Kelley scored a pair
of goals Saturday to help lead the Bridgewater College Eagles to a
5-0 victory over Guilford College in ODAC women's soccer action.
"We played a heck of a game. The girls were just on fire
tonight," Eagles head coach Mike Van Horn said.
Kelley scored at the 12:56 mark with an assist from Brittney
Harris to put the Eagles on the board. The Eagles made it 2-0 when
Caroline Banks scored off an assist from Kelly Purcell at the 33:10
mark of the first half. The Eagles took that 2-0 lead to the locker
room at the half.
Harris scored from 11 yards out early in the second half to give
BC a 3-0 lead. Meghan Groos and Sarah Taylor recorded assists on
the play. Kelley scored her second goal at the 57:41 mark with
Taylor and Groos once again registering assists. Krista Ready
tallied BC's final goal off the assist from Courtney Vaught for the
final 5-0 margin.
The two assists by Groos pushed her career total to 11 and moved
her into third-place all-time on the BC career assists chart.
The Eagles defense turned in a strong effort, allowing the
Quakers only five shots. Cari Hensley finished with one save to
record the shutout. The shutout was the eight of the season for BC
and the third for Hensley.
Bridgewater is now 9-2-1 on the season and 3-1 in the ODAC.
Guilford drops to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in the ODAC.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday when they Virginia
Wesleyan in conference play. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
