After winning the first set 25-22, the Captains rallied to
defeat the Eagles in the next three on Friday afternoon.
In the first game the Eagles jumped out to an early 9-2 lead
over the Captains. Christopher Newport rallied and tied the
score 12-12 before B.C. took the lead at 14-13. The score was
tied again at 22-22 before the Eagles finished the game with a
25-22 win.
In the second and third games Bridgewater jumped out early only
to see CNU close the gap. In the second set the Eagles lost
25-19. In the third set, BC led 4-1 before the Captains
rallied to tie the score at 6-6. CNU then led 7-6 and
8-6. Freshman Mara Hogan registered an attack to cut the lead
to one, 11-10. CNU continued to build on their lead 21-15
before junior Candice Guy had a kill for a 21-16 Captain
lead. That was the closest the Eagles would get as the
Captains won 25-18.
In the fourth and final set BC dropped a 25-18 decision.
Bridgewater was led by Erika Dirnagl with 10 kills and three
blocks, while senior middle hitter Mandy Hill registered nine kills
and five blocks. Senior Tricia Davis had 32 assists on the
afternoon, while freshman Casey O'Leary had 22 digs.
The Eagles return to action next Saturday when they travel to
Washington & Lee for a key ODAC match-up.
