Bridgewater College placed four players in double figures
Saturday afternoon to defeat the Lynchburg College Hornets, 70-64,
in ODAC men's basketball action.
The Hornets jumped out to an early 8-1 lead, but the Eagles finally
got untracked and tied the score at 11-11 on a layup by Rob Rice
with 13:52 left in the first half.
Bridgewater led by as many as eight points in the half, but the
Eagles were unable to shake the Hornets and led by just three,
32-29, at the break.
The Hornets scored the first seven points of the second half to
regain the lead. Mason Wooldridge scored four points and Danny Reed
knocked down a 3-pointer, giving Lynchburg a 36-32 advantage.
The Eagles hit three consecutive 3-pointers – two by Rice and
one by Michael Oblitey – to take a seven-point, 43-36,
lead.
A dunk by Oblitey pushed the lead to nine, but once again the
Hornets refused to fold. The Hornets chipped away at the margin and
eventually tied the score, 49-49, on a free throw by Sean
Sutherland with 9:51 left to play.
Bridgewater then hit the Hornets with a 14-4 spurt to take its
biggest lead of the game, 63-53. The Hornets responded with six
straights points to pull within four points, 63-59, with three
minutes left, but the Eagles held on down the stretch to finish off
the 70-64 victory.
Trawick led four players in double figures with 19 points. Rice
scored 13 while Oblitey and Kris Cecil each finished with 11.
Bridgewater continued to show why it is one of the top rebounding
teams in the conference as the Eagles held a 39-32 advantage on the
boards. Trawick and Rice had seven boards each and Oblitey added
six.
Mason Wooldridge led the Hornets with 24 points and 10 rebounds. KC
