Box Score Roanoke College erased a six-point deficit in the final seven
minutes Monday night to defeat Bridgewater College, 52-49, in ODAC
women's basketball action.
The Eagles led 44-38 on a layup by Jordan Burkholder with 7:15 left
in the game. Roanoke then cut the lead to two on layups by Torri
Bridge and Caitlyn Long before Burkholder scored again to give the
Eagles a 46-42 lead with 5:33 to play.
Layups by Sara Keller and Jordan Gholson tied the score for the
Maroons with 4:10 to play and two foul shots by Long put Roanoke on
top 48-46 with 3:53 remaining.
Another layup by Gholson made it a four-point game before Rebecca
Henderson made 1-of-2 free throws for BC to pull the Eagles within
three, 50-47 with 2:14 left.
A short jumper by Nikki Sydnor cut the lead to one but Jaleesa
Osborne hit two free throws with 10 seconds on the clock to give
the Maroons the 52-49 lead.
Jessica Timberlake's long 3-pointer at the buzzer was wide as
the Maroons escaped with the victory.
Burkholder flirted with a triple-double for the Eagles, finishing
with 21 points, nine rebounds and eight steals. Sydnor recorded a
double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Gholson paced the Maroons with 15 points and Sara Keller scored
10.
Bridgewater is now 9-10 in the ODAC and 11-13 overall. The Maroons
improve to 14-9 overall and 12-6 in the ODAC.
