The Bridgewater College Eagles were victorious in their 2008-09
home opener Saturday, defeating visiting Ferrum College, 66-63, in
the opening game of the Don Glick Classic at Bridgewater
College.
The Eagles jumped to a 10-point halftime lead behind the strong
shooting of junior guard Dominic Trawick, who scored 12 first half
points, including a 2-for-3 shooting effort from beyond the
arc.
The Panthers of Ferrum College rallied in the second half to regain
the lead with just over eight minutes left in the ball game behind
the play of guard Keith Crump. The Eagles responded as Trawick hit
several clutch jump shots to help the Eagles regain the lead and
then hold on down the stretch to earn the victory.
Trawick was the only BC player to reach double figures with 23
points on the night. Senior Michael Oblitey added nine points and
led the Eagles in rebounding with seven. As a team, BC committed
only 11 turnovers on the night and finished with 15 assists.
Crump led the Panthers with 22 points and teammates Derek Mitchell
and Christian Waters added 13 and 12 points respectively.
BC is now 2-2 on the season while the Panthers drop to 2-2.
In the second game, Davenport University outlasted Eastern
Mennonite in a highly competitive back and forth contest,
85-74.
Kale Waaso came off the bench for the Panthers to score 24 points
and teammates James Nelson and Nathan Cox added 13 and 11 points
respectively to help Davenport improve to 6-1 on the season.
