Royals hold on to edge Eagles

Bridgewater College cut a 10-point lead down to one in the final four minutes, but Eastern Mennonite hit two clutch free throws in the final seconds to hold on for a 68-65 ODAC victory Tuesday.

EMU took a 65-55 lead with with 3:43 left on Ebony Dennis' 3-pointer. The Eagles then hit the Royals with a 10-1 run to pull within one. Jordan Burkholder scored six points during the rally and Rebecca Henderson's layup made the score 66-65 with 30 seconds left.

Carolyn Riley and Ebony Dennis each made 1-of-2 foul shots in the closing seconds to help clinch the Royals' victory.

Burkholder led the Eagles with a game-high 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field. Jessica Timberlake added 11 points for Bridgewater.

Dennis scored 17 points to lead the Royals and Riley scored 11, Tara Jones and Brittany Snyder added 10 apiece for EMU.

The Eagles are now 7-7 overall and 5-5 in the ODAC. EMU is 12-3, 8-2 in the ODAC.
