Eagles defeat Averett, 68-51

Bridgewater College opened its home schedule Wednesday night with a 68-51 non-conference victory over the Averett University Cougars in women's basketball action at Nininger Hall.

The Eagles used an 11-4 run midway through the first half to break away from a 12-12 tie to take a 23-16 lead.

Bridgewater closed the half with a 12-2 run to lead 37-23 at the break. The late run was highlighted by a steal and long 3-pointer by Rebecca Henderson at the buzzer.

The Eagles led by as many as 21 points in the second half and the margin never dipped into single digits in the final 20 minutes.

Freshman Jordan Burkholder led the Eagles with 15 points and seven rebounds. Jennifer Saunders also reached double figures with 10 points for BC.

Ashley Washington led the Cougars with 21 points and 17 rebounds.

Bridgewater is now 2-1 on the season while Averett drops to 0-4.
