Phil Spitzer

Phil Spitzer is in his first season as the Eagles head cross country coach.

Spitzer comes to Bridgewater from Wartburg College where he was an assistant coach for the 2021 Men’s NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field national champion Knights. During his time at Wartburg, the Knights’ women’s cross country totaled four top 25 finishes at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships while the men placed in top 25 five times. 

He coached the 2020 womens 3,000 meter steeplechase national champion in Aubrie Fisher and the 2020 men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase runner-up in Christopher Collet. Spitzer has trained a total of 41 distance All-Americans during his coaching career.

Spitzer graduated from Calvin College in 2014 with a bachelor of science degree in public accountancy. He competed for the Knights in cross country and track & field and ranks on Calvin's list of top 25 performances in the 10,000m and 3,000m steeplechase.

He is USA Track and Field Level 1 certified and has completed certifications in functional movement systems as well as sprints, hurdles and relays.
