How it HappenedÂ
- Bridgewater got on the attack first as Alicia Keo fired a shot on goal in the opening minute, but Sydney Smith had no problem scooping it up to keep the game scoreless. Laura Narby got a shot on net in the fourth minute to keep the pressure on and once more Smith made the stop.
- Washington and Lee began to apply pressure as Brynn Bissinger fired a shot arcing away from the goal that Carlee Gaboury got a piece of and pushed it out of play to give WLU a corner kick. On the attempt Cameron Grainger sent the ball in and Gaboury looked to have had it stopped but incidental contact between Gaboury and a Generals player dislodged the ball and sent it into the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead 14 minutes in.
- The Generals kept their foot down as they fired four shots on net down the stretch, but Gaboury turned three of the aside while one was cleared off of the goal line by Katherine King to send the game to the break at a 1-0 WLU edge.
- WLU got multiple shots off early in the second half but only one found the target as Gaboury made the save. Bridgewater looked for multiple attempts to counter-attack and had a chance with Keo on the move. The midfielder fired a shot from just outside the box that arced well wide of the frame. The Eagles had another similar chance in the 58th minute as Skyler Daum had her shot blocked but Narby scooped up her change on the far side and put a shot on net that was knocked away by a diving Smith.
- Bridgewater made a move offensively late in the frame by bringing in an extra attacker up front. The adjustment led to a corner kick for the crimson and gold in the 69th minute and Hannah Nugent got a head on it but her shot sailed just over the cross bar. Washington and Lee flipped the field after the chance and earned a corner of their own minutes later. The ball in was bounced around with Kendall Garza nearly clearing it but the Generals settled down and got a shot on net that was once again turned away by Gaboury. The final six minutes were controlled by the BC attack. Bridgewater kept the pressure on but did not muster a shot. The Eagles had once last chance with less than 30 seconds to go as Anna Zurlo was fouled leading to a free kick. Keo sent her ball in and it was cleared away by a WLU defender to seal the deal.
