Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball battled through five sets ultimately falling to visiting Penn State Altoona.
After dropping the first set, the Eagles stormed back to take sets two and three. Bridgewater produced their best offense in set three, hitting a .237 as a team and holding the Nittany Lions to a .174.
Down 18-13 in the fourth set, an Emma Anderson service run brought the Eagles back within two at 18-16. Kills from Hope Jennings and Jessica Bissmeyer helped the home team come within reach at 20-19, but a string of untimely errors gave the Lions the 25-20 set win to push a fifth and final set.
The visitors controlled the start of the fifth set and maintained the momentum. Kills from Ann-Marie Johnson and Jennings pushed Bridgewater in position to make a move but it was too late as the Lions took the set 15-10 and the match 3-2.
Lisa O'Grady recorded a team high 15 kills followed by Bissmeyer and Rachael Meyers with 11 each, both new career highs for the senior and sophomore. Grace Hayes posted 49 assists and 17 digs for her second double-double of the season. Bissmeyer added 21 digs, followed by Grace Williams with 17 and Jennings with 14.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 25 when they travel to Ferrum to take on the Panthers along with Washington & Lee in an ODAC Tri-Match.
