Box Score MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville College tallied the game's lone goal with less than 15 minutes left to play Saturday to take a 1-0 victory over the Bridgewater College women's soccer team at the Maryville Fall Classic.
The Eagles had plenty of opportunities in the contest as they took twice as many shots, holding a 22-11 advantage over the host team. Bridgewater also held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
In the second half Bridgewater held a 13-4 edge in shots with five of those attempts on goal, but the Scots made one of their four shots count when Sierra Seigel scored an unassisted goal at the 75:14 mark for a 1-0 Maryvile lead.
Following the Scots' goal, the Eagles immediately applied pressure to Maryville's defense. Michelle Viegas fired a shot wide and Isabella Krider put a shot on frame that was saved by Scots keeper Mandy Marshall.
Maryville's defense held firm in the closing two minutes as the Eagles tried to even the score. Viegas had another shot sail wide and the Scots defended Bridgewater's final corner of the game to preserve the 1-0 victory.
Viegas led the Eagles with seven shots, including two on goal. Katherine Wight took four shots and Keri Rager had three attempts. The Maryville defense held Eagles leading scorer Julia Baca to no shots during the contest.
Eagles keeper Hayley Talbott finished the contest with five saves while Marshall recorded eight saves for Maryville (2-0).
Bridgewater, now 1-1 on the season, faces Piedmont College on Sunday afternoon.
