BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater Eagles men's tennis team enters the weekend as the hottest team in the league and is set to host the opening round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships for the second straight year when they tangle with Roanoke at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the BC Tennis Courts.
Bridgewater is riding a seven-match winning streak into this weekend's tournament while the Maroons open tournament play on a two-game skid.
On April 11, Bridgewater rolled to an 8-1 victory over the Maroons at the BC Tennis Courts.
At number one singles, junior Peter Hawkins is set for a rematch with Roanoke's top flight singles player, James Lee. Hawkins dropped Lee during their head-to-head matchup on April 11 at Bridgewater with the Silver Spring, Md. native earning a 6-4, 6-1 win. Hawkins owns a 9-6 dual match record while Lee enters with a 4-10 record on the season.
Freshman Brandon Larsen has been out of action for the past two matches but is slated to get back to play on Saturday at number two. Larsen will play Roanoke number two player Lewis Young, who Larsen upended by a 6-2, 6-0 tally a week ago. Young enters the match with a 2-12 dual match mark while Larsen owns a 7-5 record during the spring season.
Fellow freshman Evan Stack is projected to battle Roanoke's Charlie Graves at number three singles. Last week, Stack claimed an easy 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Graves, who enters the match at 2-11 during the spring campaign. Stack, an Acworth, Ga. native, has rolled to a team-high 12 wins in dual match action, including a 7-1 mark in ODAC play.
At number four, senior Brent Floyd will meet up with a familiar foe in Roanoke's Greg Migliarese. On April 11, Floyd swept Migliarese by a 6-0, 6-0 tally to earn the victory at number four. Floyd, the Bridgewater career singles wins leader, has matched Stack's team-leading 12 wins during the dual match campaign, while Migliarese has posted a 3-11 record during the 2012 portion of the season for the Maroons.
Freshman Christian Lynn will meet up with Roanoke sophomore Chris Migliarese in action at number five. Lynn took down the younger Migliarese by a 6-1, 6-2 margin. Migliarese owns a 4-10 dual match record while Lynn's posted a 9-6 campaign in 2012 dual match action.
Finally at number six, sophomore transfer Sam Churchill is slated to battle Roanoke sophomore Ian Webster. On April 11, Webster defeated Churchill in a tightly contested match by a 6-4, 7-5 tally. On the year, Churchill owns a 9-6 dual match record including a 7-1 ODAC mark. Webster enters the weekend with a 7-3 record in dual match action which is the highest wins total for the Maroons.
In doubles play, the Eagles enter the weekend with a 30-18 record in dual match action and a 22-5 mark in conference play. The number three duo of Brent Floyd and Mike Cable lead the Eagles with 12 wins this spring. Roanoke's mustered just 11 doubles victories as a team in dual match action.
Saturday's weather forecast is showing a strong possibility of thunderstorms. In the event of poor weather conditions, the match will be moved to the Bridgewater Indoor Facility. For more information or for complete results from the ODAC Championships, stay tuned to odaconline.com.
